Our Way of - Sperm Storage
1
The Clinic storing your seamen will receive it once a year. They check whether you want to continue storing your sperm.
2
After the sample has been processed for cryoprotection the sperm is stored in small vials or straws holding between 0.4-1ml of sperm and then cryogenically preserved in liquid nitrogen tanks.
3
Two approaches for sperm cryopreservation include conventional freezing and vitrification. The conventional technique consists of a slow freezing process that is most commonly used for ART.
Need a Sperm Donor?
When the male partner has a low sperm count or his sperm is of low quality, they need some other man who is willing to donate sperm which will fertilize with the egg of the female partner to form an embryo. Donated sperm is accepted to couples where there is no possibility of retrieving sperm naturally or by the surgical procedure for a man. The donor sperms are used to either inseminate the woman (IUI) or to fertilize her egg for the ICSI procedure.
For couples opting for donor sperm, semen from a certified sperm bank is taken. These sperm samples are from fertile donors. Semen was found to be normal according to WHO criteria. Required information in respect of the donor, such as blood group, height, age, educational qualification, the color of skin, and eyes are matched with the recipient. It is ensured that the sperm donor is free from any medical and genetic diseases. A semen sample will be cryopreserved for at least 6 months. Before cryopreservation and after 6 months, the semen donor will be tested for HIV, Hepatitis B, C, and VDRL.
The confidentiality and anonymity of the sperm donor, as well as the recipient, are strictly maintained.
Retrieving and thawing the vials
Before retrieving the vials, please put on protective gloves of some kind latex, gardening, or dishwashing gloves, as the vials will initially be too cold to touch with your bare hands.
Each vial will be labeled with the donor number, date of ejaculate, and the initials Genetics Cryobank—please check to confirm that you’ve received the desired samples.
To thaw the vial, let it sit at room temperature for thirty minutes. Once thawed, the contents of the vial will be liquid. Warm the vial to body temperature in your hands or under your arm before inseminating.
Please note: once you have thawed a vial, you cannot refreeze the sperm.
